INTRODUCTION
Windsor Islamic High School (WIHS) was established by the Islamic community in 2015. Windsor Islamic High School is a fully accredited institution by the Ministry of Education. Students receive their OSSD once they earn all of their required credits. On June of 2019, we graduated our first cohort of grade 12 students who‘ve received acceptance from various universities in Canada and the United States.
The school is serving students from grades 9 to 12. Windsor Islamic High School teachers are mainly certified with higher professional degrees in their respective subjects. The majority of teachers hold Masters and PhD degrees.
The school has a special Quran Hifz program and we welcome local students from Windsor and the Essex county areas. There are many students at WIHS who successfully completed the Hifz of the entire Quran. Additionally, the school has been fully equipped with science labs including the robotics lab which is equipped efficiently to teach students.
Windsor Islamic High School provides unique opportunities for students in terms of earning their credits which has allowed the school to flourish. Students can now earn their credits in different methods such as:
· Full time Attendance
· Online courses
· Independent study
· Self Study Methods
· Skilled and professional Co-op programs
WIHS has also opened its admissions for international students. Additionally, WIHS provides SAT exam preparations as an exclusive local educational plan.
Furthermore, we have a Reach Ahead program which adheres to all standard school practices in accommodating students by recording and granting them various achievements. Students are typically eligible for Reach Ahead during the Grade 8 school year or the summer before Grade 9, as outlined in the Ontario Schools Policy and Program Requirements section 2.5.2.1.
At Windsor Islamic High School, we have skilled basketball players taking part in the school’s official team at WECSSAA. The Windsor Essex County Secondary School Athletic Association is a collection of educational institutions from diverse communities, backgrounds and religions, administering athletic competitions amongst its members. Students from WIHS competed this year with high-performance outcomes in many matches and games.
An outstanding moment this year to share with you: a WIHS student scored in the top 1% of the US- based SAT college admissions test. This is proof positive, that students from the Windsor Islamic school system can compete with the world’s best and emerge on top, inshallah. We are very proud of this significant accomplishment and the achievement being an inspiration for students throughout our community.
We would proudly like to announce to the community that the school is offering the Specialist High Skills Major Diploma during the upcoming academic year. Specialist High Skills Majors lets students focus on a career path that matches their skills and interests while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Students receive the SHSM seal on their diploma when they:
· Complete a specific bundle of 8-10 courses in the student’s preferred field
· Earn valuable industry certifications including first aid and CPR qualifications
· Gain important skills on the job through cooperative education placements
